Event: Marathon Des Sables 2022, from 25 March 2022 to 4 April 2022
The Marathon des Sables, or MdS, is called the toughest footrace on earth. Competitors have to take on six marathons in six days across the scorching Sahara desert, covering over 250km and carrying all your equipment on your back.

Story

I left the Army in June 2020 and had planned to celebrate the end of my 34 years of service by completing the Marathon Des Sables (MdS) 2020 to raise money for Walking With The Wounded. WWTW supports physically and mentally wounded veterans who have served in the Armed Forces and their families, empowering them to regain their independence, thrive and contribute in our communities.

Unfortunately, due to COVID causing the original event to be cancelled, I am now (hopefully) finally going to be able to attempt MdS in March 2022.

MdS is billed as the toughest foot race on earth by the Discovery Channel. Competitors have to take on six marathons in six days across the scorching Sahara Desert, covering over 250km, in temperatures rising to 50 degrees Celcius. Day 4 is the feared double day when competitors run non-stop for two marathons across the dunes. The rules require you to be self-sufficient, to carry with you on your back everything except water that you need to survive.

If you can help me support the terrific charity Walking with the Wounded, I would be hugely grateful. Thank you, Andrew
