Thanks to all of you that have taken the time to visit my page.
Swimming the English Channel is a once in a lifetime challenge for me. I am very grateful to have the opportunity to be raising money for a fantastic charity called Aspire. Aspire has developed national services over the last 30 years to support people with spinal cord injuries throughout the UK.
Every eight hours someone in the UK is paralysed by spinal a cord injury. Aspire offer advice and support, purchase lightweight equipment and provide temporary accessible housing. Taking part in the 2014 Channel relay swim will mean Aspire can help more people with spinal cord injuries to be independent and live fulfilled lives.
The English Channel at its shortest is 21 miles across and will be around 14 degrees (No Wetsuit allowed). We will be negotiating one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world with sizeable waves and swell, jelly fish and chronic sea sickness thrown in for good measure.
Team Aspire (Swordfish) is due to cross on Sep 1 2014. My team of 6 will take alternate 1 hour rotations treating each rotation as a sprint to make up distance and battle against the tides.
There’s some vigorous training ahead so I will be updating everyone with progress throughout the year.
Please donate whatever you can afford to this very worthy charity,
Andy
