Story
Thank you for donating to Andrews page as you know Andrew passed away within weeks of the diagnosis any money raised will be donated to research in Andrew's name.
Appreciate your time and your donation every little helps.
Just for the avoidance of doubt, even though the charity is under the umbrella of Leicester hospital charities all the donations will be going to the account "Pancreas Cancer Research" headed by Prof Ashley Dennison, president of the Great Britain and Ireland pancreatic society who lead the second opinion team into Andrews diagnosis.
Pancreatic cancer is a devastating disease that affects up to 8,000 people each year in the UK; it’s the 4th commonest fatal cancer in the UK with a worst survival than any other cancer. In a recent survey 74%
of people in the UK could not name a single symptom of pancreatic cancer. Sadly one person dies of pancreatic cancer every hour, and only 5% of patients live for five years or more after diagnosis. Unfortunately due to its late presentation currently over 80% of people with pancreatic cancer are not diagnosed until the disease is advanced at which point there are very few treatment options and only 10-20% of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer can go on to have potentially curative surgery.
