Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am an Anaesthetist based in Aberdeen and also work as a BASICS Prehospital Responder, using equipment funded by the Sandpiper Trust.
Whilst in an ideal world, ambulances response times would always be fast, we know that this isn't always achievable, particularly in more rural or remote areas of the country. The aim of the Sandpiper Trust is to save lives across Scotland by supporting and equipping specially trained GPs, community nurses, paramedics and A&E Consultants who work as voluntary prehospital responders in their communities. These Responders are linked into and activated by the Scottish Ambulance Service and are often first to arrive at the scene of an accident or emergency, administering vital, pre-hospital care following a 999 call.
The Sandpiper Trust also support the Sandpiper WILDCAT initiative which is providing a network of trained non-medical volunteers in 50 locations across NE Scotland. When someone has a cardiac arrest their chances of surviving fall by 10% every minute without treatment and the WILDCAT project aims to maximise their chances of survival by getting a skilled volunteer Responder with a state of the art defibrillator to them as quickly as possible.
For the last couple of years I've watched friends and family fundraise for Sandpiper and now it's my turn. Starting off with a 20km Time Trial. Not aiming for any particular time - organisers say I'll have all day to do it - and taking it from there.
