We are thoroughly devastated that Dad, Bill, Will, passed away suddenly
on Tuesday 27th October 2020, whilst out walking on the North Yorkshire Moors near Cod Beck Reservoir with his partner, Patricia and a small group of U3A walkers. It was the beginning of a short walk, nothing strenuous and was a sudden collapse. Despite immediate resuscitation, mountain rescue called and the Great North Air Ambulance at the scene, was not survivable.
As you know this was all in keeping with his very physical lifestyle, he did not suffer, or have any awareness of what happened, and for this we are thankful. We think if he could have chosen a way to pass- this would be it - happy and active until the second his life unfortunately ended.
We are devastated and had hoped he would have had many more healthy years ahead of him. He had just last month completed the West Highland way with his daughter Caroline, Son-in-law Jim and Patricia, which he completed in usual style, no fuss and very easily!! As you can imagine, he was a wonderful father and example to us siblings.
Instead of the giving of flowers and in his memory, we have decided as a family to raise funds for the Great North Air Ambulance who attended the scene on the day.
The Great North Air Ambulance Service provide air ambulance services across the North East, Cumbria and North Yorkshire and are entirely funded by charity. They have responded to over 17,000 incidents since 2002 and bring pioneering pre-hospital care to the scene, rescuing hundreds of severely injured or ill patients every year. They are not NHS funded.
