Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Last month we said farewell to my wonderful Grandpa Jim Pratt after after a long, happy and love-filled life.
In the last few years of my Grandpa's life, as his eyesight worsened, he received valuable support from the wonderful people at Blind Veterans UK. They help veterans to live well despite their visual impairment, through training, rehabilitation, support and adaptive equipment. They also provide residential training, rehabilitation and respite at their centres in Brighton and Llandudno and I know my Grandpa particularly valued his stays in North Wales.
I wanted to fundraise for Blind Veterans UK so that others can benefit from the same support that my Grandpa received, and when I saw that they had places in the Great North Run I made the slightly impulsive decision to enter this year's event. It's also a bit of a last-minute decision with only 15 weeks left to get myself into a vaguely appropriate shape, so the end result may not be pretty. But with my Grandpa being a man of the North-East, the Great North Run seemed like the appropriate event to enter.
Who knows whether the event can even go ahead this year but I'll do the distance whether it's the official event on the streets of Tyneside or some Corona-appropriate version from my front door!
I'd be grateful for any donations you can make. If you are a UK taxpayer please Gift Aid. It's extra money for the charity at no extra cost to you. Finally, think positive thoughts on the 12th September!
