Story
Hi
Myself and Dave Ahern are running the Edinburgh Marathon on May 26th and we are looking to raise money for Ashurst House to rpovide a sensory garden for the live in residents. Ashurst House is run by Scope and allows severely disabled young adults to live as independently as possible. To read more about their work, please visit http://www.scope.org.uk/services/ashurst-supported-living-young-disabled-people
This charity is close to my heart as my sister in law Emily Barnard lives at Ashurst House. Emily suffers from a rare condition called CFC (cardio facio cutanious) syndrome which means Emily is wheelchair bound and has learning difficulties. Emily's Dad, Tim wrote down Emily's story a few years ago, it make's for interesting reading, check it out at, http://www.cfcsyndrome.org/emily.shtml
The provision of a sensory garden for Emily and her house mates will provide a stimulating outdoor environment.
I have known Emily for four years and even though her disabilities are severe she has a great personality and when in the mood can be funny, cheeky and tell you when she doesn't like something. Ashurst allows Emily to live independently form her parents with other people of her own age.
