Ben The Hoose, 1 February 2021
The KFF's Fun in February appeal asks supporters to take on a challenge in February 2021 - sporty, foody, wild, simple, whatever! - and raise £100+ for the KFF's charities. This support is vital for our struggling projects after such a tough 2020.

Story

Hi everyone, it's been 5 years since the Mercer brothers nearly died completing the St Albans half marathon for the wonderful Kate Farrer Foundation (details below) so we thought it high time to get off our backsides again. This time we are attempting the North face of Ben Nevis, yes that's the one inside your own house - hence the title: "Ben the Hoose!"

Our goal is to conquer the equivalent height of Ben Nevis using just our house stairs! This will entail walking up and down our house stairs 100 times a day for 5 days! The total will be 6,550 steps once completed.

We are wondering if, like when we were at school, you might like to sponsor us 1 penny for every 10 steps (£6.50) or tuppence (£13.00). If everyone gives a little we're hopeful of getting to the target!

We're one of a number of challenges the friends of the KFF are undertaking in February and we are looking to raise £500.If you can spare a few pennies we'd be so grateful as it is an amazing charity set up for a dear friend of ours who sadly passed away a few years ago. Here are more details of the charity's work.

The Kate Farrer Foundation supports grass root causes around the world, with a focus on vulnerable women and children. It works with UK charities including Child Aid and projects for the homeless and further afield where many small projects count on the KFF to deliver basic medical services to their communities.

To continue the medical and philanthropic work of Dr Kate Farrer, who passed away in 2014, her family set up the Kate Farrer Foundation to support the types of charities she supported. We work with small charities around the world, from our base in Cambridge (UK) to global partners, with particular interest in social and medical welfare including paediatric and neonatal care (Kate's specialism). The Trustees ensure that all donations are used to support tangible projects and that donors are regularly updated on grant allocation.
