Story
In January 2015, my father was diagnosed with mesothemiola and was given 12 months to live. On 10 May 2017 he sadly died at St Gemma's Hospice in Leeds.
My father was a former professional referee, magistrate and was heavily involved in local football. For over 50 years he administered and developed football in Leeds and West Yorkshire.
St Gemma's Hospice was always a place that my father spoke highly of and he regularly raised money for the Hospice or donated clothes etc.
I always had a rough idea of what St Gemma's did and represented, but it was not until my father died did I realise what a wonderful place it really is. The care they provided to him was fantastic; they made him feel welcome and comfortable throughout his stay. They also looked after my family and were there to provide advice and support, particularly when my father started to really deteriorate.
Without St Gemma's my father would have died at home, would not have lasted as long as he did and I am sure would have been in greater pain and discomfort.
St Gemma's relies on donations in order to operate, without which, it would not exist.
On 8 October 2017 I am running in the Plusnet Yorkshire 10 mile event in York. I am not much of a runner so this will be tough for me and a real challenge! Please support me and St Gemma's by donating whatever you can spare (even 50p would be appreciated and would make a difference). I will be participating in further events next year with the aim to raise a total of £5,000 for St Gemma's Hospice. With your help I can do it!
Thank you.
