Story
Hi everyone!
Since the 2020 pandemic lockdown in the UK (circa end of March) I've taken up a new hobby, running. As I've had a little bit more time on my hands than usual, and seeing that those lockdwon calories taste even sweeter at the moment, I've been out jogging every other day, trying to improve my fitness. In turn, it's created a new passion in life for me, and I've found something that I love doing.
2020 marks 10 years since my Dad died in July 2010, and I also personally know some friends that are currently battling so hard against the c-word. I remember when my Dad was diagnosed, they gave him hardly any time at all, but thanks to Cancer Research, that time was extended to nearly 14 months.
I understand that everybody's experience with Cancer is different, and it's a battle that everybody faces in massively contrasting ways, both physically and mentally. What I want to try and do, is get you to live vicariously through me for a couple of hours on June 17th 2020, and send me your positive vibes, so that I can run from my house to Great Malvern, and back.
A little bit of this is also because that I have never acheived a trophy, or a medal of any kind. I was always on the bench at football and I've got a wildly inconsistent forehand in Tennis. Running seems to be the first sporting based activity I'm not completely hopeless at!
I will be running a half marathon, which is 13.1 miles. This is massively huge for me, as I have never run this far in one go before. The aim is to leave my house, follow the A449 all the way into Great Malvern - get up to the Elagar statue (near the Spa Water Taps) and then run all the way home.
Uphill on the way there,
Downhill on the way home!
I want to ambitously try to raise £250.00!
Like I said in the video, if I hit £500.00, I'll shave my head.
I've never shaved my head before. I think I may look a little weird... If you double the donation that you were going to give me, you might just see a humpty-dumpty lookalike running up the A449, on the 17th June.
I'm not particularly fast, but one thing that I am, is stubborn.
I WILL complete this challenge!
The more money that we can raise, the faster you'll make me run!
Thanks again for reading this, and I do hope that you are keeping safe and well in amongst this crazy year of 2020.
Please only donate if you're able, but all and any donations are welcome.
Until then, if you are interested in my training, follow me on Strava, and Instagram - where I post the majority of the running I'll do.
I am leaving the door open for donations until 31.07.20, which is the anniversary of my Dad's passing. Then, I will be happy to announce the total that we have raised.
If there are any long distance runners out there, please feel free to give me tips on race plans and pacing, also nutrtional advice is greatly welcomed too!
On the big day, if you want to see some updates, follow me on Instagram @mr_andrewmaguire for updates, and to see if I have hair or not.
I will be making a short film about this challenge that I'm setting myself, so in a few weeks time, you can see how I got on.
Thanks again,
x
