We give children access to inclusive education and safe spaces

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I have decided to run the London Marathon 2023 in support of Chance for Childhood

Chance for Childhood believes that no child should have to fight for a safe and happy childhood.

Since 1992, Chance for Childhood has been at the forefront of fighting for children in the most vulnerable situations in Africa and across the world. Specialising in providing access to inclusive education and safe spaces, Chance for Childhood ensures that children in Africa can play, grow, learn and thrive. In 2021 alone, over 11,500 children across Africa were given support.

In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), support has been provided since 2015 to children affected by conflict and children experiencing disabilities. The DRC is often referred to as “the rape capital of the world” with some of the worst levels of sexual violence globally. “Out of school” boys are often recruited by rebel groups to become child soldiers, while girls turn to prostitution as a way of survival. Working with a partner, Children’s Voice, support has been provided to over 1000 children to access inclusive and quality education.

In Kenya, a project was launched to help children on the streets thrive in school.  With support from partners, Chance for Childhood has used a flagship Learning Support Assistant Model to help 200 children. Using 20 trained Learning Support Assistants, 178 children have
already shown to perform above average in their class!

In Uganda, support has been provided since 2008 to children affected by conflict, children in conflict with the law, and children in refugee settlements. Uganda is host to 1.4 million refugees, the largest refugee-hosting nation in Africa. The EQUAL programme supports children living in Kyaka II Refugee Settlement in Uganda, many of whom arrive with extreme trauma after experiencing war, Ebola, violence and conflict in the DRC. Since September 2021, over 800 children have been provided support to access inclusive education.

Additionally, Chance for Childhood has also been providing support in Rwanda since 2009 to children experiencing disabilities, as well as working in Ghana since 1999 to support street-connected children gain access to education and to support children experiencing disabilities.

TODAY - Chance for Childhood is working harder than ever to support children in the most vulnerable situations in Africa, such as street-connected children, children experiencing disabilities, and children affected by conflict.

TOMORROW – We all need to fight for every child to ensure access to inclusive education and safe spaces so that children can play, grow, learn and thrive!

Please support my foot-weary efforts to run 26.2 miles, by supporting a charity that seeks to provide the start we want for our own children and the start that all children deserve – thank you for your consideration.
