Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I have been a member of the Marine Conservation Society for some years. I joined because I've always loved the seaside, nature and the natural world!

I have fond memories as a child of our holidays in Pembrokeshire.  I took my own kids there when they were young and we had fantastic times. Now I am introducing my grandchildren to the seaside but I want them to see it as I did - clean, pure and unpolluted. Sadly that's not always the case! Plastic pollution is evident wherever you go!

I enjoy fly fishing and have fished for salmon and sea trout in our rivers for 30 years but due largely to over-fishing at sea their numbers have dwindled! I started fly fishing for sea bass in Tenby last year in the hope that some sport may be had but sadly sea bass too are few and far between because of commercial exploitation at sea! By the way I safely return every fish I catch so that they can fight another day! I would like things to change before it's too late! I want my grandchildren and theirs to have the opportunity to enjoy the oceans as I do and I believe that the Marine Conservation Society are the best organisation to make that happen!

The Scilly Isles Kayaking Challenge is an opportunity for me to see the beauty and appreciate the ecology of the seas around Scilly. As a photographer I am looking forward to documenting my experiences for others to appreciate. The challenge will include litter picking and other environmental protection initiatives.

Before starting this fundraising challenge I have contributed £250 which will cover the cost of my foot passenger ferry costs from Penzance, campsite, kayak and wet suit hire. Food and drink will be down to me!

All donations made on this page will go directly to the Marine Conservation Society, including any cash that I receive from car wash initiatives or other fundraising projects. They will all be documented here!
