1000 Mile Solo Bike Ride from Lands End to John O'Groats · 10 June 2023
In 2013 I lost 10 stone in ten months through getting active in the gym. Weighing 23 stone plus, hypertensive & prediabetic I was referred to the gym by my GP. I was heading towards metabolic syndrome. I suffered with anxiety, depression and addiction issues. I was withdrawn & signed off work. Within a year my life had been transformed and my medication either stopped or reduced. Nine years on my passion is now to help others improve their physical and mental wellbeing through getting active & improved nutrition. I now work as a fitness instructor/Personal trainer for Wigan council. I cycle 21 miles a day (round trip) to work daily. I get to see first hand the difference getting active can make to peoples lives. From building confidence, helping with social anxiety, depression or stabilising and some times reversing severe health complaints such as type 2 diabetes or recovering from a heart attack or stroke. Helping people get back to fitness or even back to work is a real privilege i take great pride in. Both the 'Brick' and Be well Wigan do amazing jobs in helping people in need by getting them back on there feet.
During these unprecedented times of hardship 'the Brick' needs more donations than ever before! The Brick needs much needed funds to help run the homeless hostel in Leigh or to provide vulnerable families with food parcels and blankets. Free gym memberships paid for by 'the brick' can help bring vulnerable young adults out of isolation bringing them much needed routine, purpose and self worth.
If possible could you sponsor me a penny a mile or whatever you can afford. This will make a real difference to those who need our help most.
The bricks aim is to eradicate homelessness and poverty in our community. We support homeless people, those facing homelessness, and people experiencing crisis or poverty in the Wigan borough.People who are marginalised by society, who can, with support, become independent and contribute positively to their communities. Services include crisis intervention, housing and health support on behalf of the Council, a foodbank, social and employment training, and wide-ranging volunteering opportunities. We ensure no one in our community gets left behind.
