Story
My mother in law Sandra recently passed away with a condition called COPD. Over the last few years her condition deteriorated with many visits to the local hospital trying to fight off chest infections. When Sandra became recently very ill she decided that she wanted to go to The East Lancashire Hospice rather than going back in hospital. This was a place where Sandra always wanted to go when the time came as this was the place where her brother Ronnie had gone to live his last few days. Sandra had decided to stop all medication and to allow herself to go peacefully & without any more pain. When Sandra was admitted to the hospice we could see she was relieved and happy that she had got her wish. Over the next five days Sandra recieved the care and attention that she wanted. The doctors, nurses and staff were so sympathetic towards Sandra which put her at ease. Sadly Sandra passed away with her family with her on Sunday 22nd July 2018.
I feel that I need to help raise funds for this great voluntary organisation so that they can continue to help other families in their hour of need.
To do this I am going to set off from Buttermere lake in Cumbria, cycle up Honister pass, climbing to over 1100 feet from the lake. Continuing along the B5829 toward Borrodale before making the next accent to Blea Tarn another unforgiving climb. I'll then be cycling through the heart of the lakes passing through Grassmere, Ambleside and Windermere to name a few. After reaching Kendal I'll be heading south down the A6 toward Preston & eventually Blackburn. This route is approx 90-100 miles with a total climb of around 4700 feet. I do enjoy cycling but this is going to be a real challenge as I will hoping to complete the route in one day.
I will be attempting this challenge Friday 28th Sept 2018.
I hope you can make a donation and make a difference.
Thank you and best regards,
Andrew Gaffney
