Story
I'm running the 2019 London Marathon and raising money for the RNLI. The money I hope to raise will go specifically towards the construction of the brand new Lifeboat Station in Burry Port.
This appeal is special to me as the Burry Port station covers my local beaches. Many people may not know that they service the whole of north side of the Gower Peninsula, including Whitford, Llangennith, Burry Holmes and around the corner along Rhossili Beach to Worm's Head.
The three storey building will offer the extra space required to house both lifeboats and will help speed up the launch process when the crew are called out on a lifesaving mission. It also includes modern training and changing facilities for the volunteer crew, a mechanic’s workshop, a shop and a viewing area so the public can view the lifeboats. There will also be display areas for the volunteers to mount exhibitions and share information about their lifesaving work and to help promote sea safety.
The RNLI is a charity, the only emergency service that relies fully on fundraising. On average they rescue 23 people a day - none of this is possible without donations. At some point, any one of us or our family might need their support - at the beach, walking along the coast or out at sea. Please donate what you can to help support the RNLI and its volunteers.
