Story
In February 22 Mum was diagnosed with a tumour in the brain which was later found out to be Clival Chordoma.
Mum had only just started to get her life back on track after losing her husband (Dad) back in June 20 to Lung Cancer who she cared for to the end of his illness at home through the difficult Covid period and 6 months prior to that she had lost her own Dad.
Conditions of Mums illness meant she had to go to Hospital in July 22 and she was unable to leave. In September 22 it was decided that the risks of operating were too high with the tumour located around the brain stem.
She spent 10 months in the Sahara B Ward at Queens Hospital in Romford where she was incredibly well looked after and was made to be as comfortable as she could be. Mum never complained or moaned and only ever worried about others. She managed to see her 70th Birthday in Queens with her family and friends before her condition worsened.
Sadly Mum passed away on the 28th May 23.
Every 10 minutes somewhere another child, teenager or adult is diagnosed with this brutal disease and they face a 5-year chance of survival at little over 50%. This drops even further if the disease is discovered late and has already progressed. The Bone Cancer Research Trust is the only charity dedicated to this disease, it is a small but national charity based in Leeds, UK. They fund ground-breaking research, life-saving awareness initiatives and provide dedicated and trustworthy information and support to patients and all their loved ones... All without any government funding. They rely 100% on people like you supporting their work through donations. Their work has never been so crucial and vital. Figures from the National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) have shown that research into primary bone cancer continues to be critically underfunded, with the main UK charities allocating just 0.02%
We are left with some amazing memories, but it’s no substitute to having Mum being around. Any Cancer is cruel and completely debilitating for the those that are unfortunate and for loved ones to see them suffer. If you can spare a few pounds to help fund research, it would be massively appreciated in hope that there will be breakthroughs into this horrible disease, and future generations don’t have to suffer as we are today.
