Story
"Daddy, that's a big belly, can I pat it?" those were the words I needed to hear, to push me on to commit to doing this.
This year has been my 40th birthday and for a long time I was thinking that I should set myself a challenge; this is it! Some of you may know that last year I did the Couch to 5K, after 20 years of not exercising at all. I even ran 10KM, the problem is...since last October I have only gone for a run about four times and can not run 5KM anymore.
My challenge is to run 21KM - a half marathon, more than double anything I've ever done. Last year, 10KM was my absolute limit, even after lots of training. It will not be pretty. It will not be fast. But I plan to do this before the end of the school summer holidays. Will I manage? I genuinely don't know, but I'm going to give it my best shot!
CLIC Sargent has become close to my heart over the past year. The work they do is amazing. Cancer is horrible at any age. Someone telling you, you have cancer must be the worst thing you can hear. But imagine that happening to you when you were a child / young person. Imagine that happening to your child. Your world turned upside down. CLIC Sargent are there for these families; emotionally, physically and financially. Letting these families get on with spending time with each other and concentrating on their child. I couldn't imagine going through it. I hope I never have to. But I want to do all I can to help those who do.
Please consider donating, even just a £1 and I will be grateful and run with an extra little skip in my step.
£4 could pay for a CLIC Sargent storybook that explains childhood cancer to children in simple, easy to understand language
£15 could pay for a copy of CLIC Sargent's DVD to help bereaved families understand and cope with their grief
£46 could pay for a CLIC Sargent Social Worker to be there soon after diagnosis, giving a family one-to-one support
£170 could pay for a CLIC Sargent grant to help stop cancer costs spiraling.
Please consider donating, no matter how small, so you can laugh at my pain, see me doing something that no one would ever think I'd consider doing, and for these children and families who need this amazing charity.
