Story
It was a real shock to find out Michael had developed Motor Neurone Disease. To think a healthy person one minute could be struck down so quickly and have his and his families lives changed so dramatically.
Michael's courage and the way he is dealing with this has been truly inspiring, I doubt I would be that strong.
Michael is a colleague at Three UK. What makes Three such a great place to work are the people, people like Michael. We have a great sense of community there and we support our own.
I would like to dedicate my efforts on Triathlon X to Michael and his charity. It is an extreme Iron Man distance event in the Lake District and voted The World's Toughest for the past few Years. It starts with a 2.4 mile swim, 112 miles on the Fred Whitton cycle route (brutal) and the Marathon takes you to the top of Scafell Pike on tracks, it's the highest point in England. I still don't know if I will finish it. Cramp is the only thing to stop me, which I suffer from a lot (neuromuscular). An old Rugby injury to my C7 means my right side is now stronger than my left side and I get pins and needles down my left arm after about an hour on the bike but all this pales into insignificance compared to Michaels battle.
