Story
The gift of sight should never be taken for granted. Age related Macular Degeneration is the most common cause of sight loss in the UK and over 500,000 people are affected. As yet, there is no cure. My late Father (George) developed Macular Degeneration. Imagine one day being able to see clearly, slowly but surely your vision becoming a blur until eventually you cannot even make out the face of your loved ones. I want to give something back to the Charity that helped and supported both Dad and Mum through a very difficult time.
Running was a no go area some 3 1/2 stone ago for me. Now, you can't stop me and I am raring to go. I want to raise the profile of the Charity and what better way than to do this in the 'Great North Run'. It will be a personal achievement to me, who not that long ago could not run for a bus without getting breathless.
Raising the profile of the Macular Society and raising money at the same time - and in memory of my Dad, I already feel very proud.
£500 is the minimum target, but I hope to raise as much money as possible.
From £3 - £3,000 provides an information pack, trains a volunteer, pays for counselling sessions, and will help pay the set up and running costs of a new support group for a year.
Please give generously, it really will be appreciated.
Thanks - Andrea x
