Hello and welcome to my JustGiving page.
My friend, Gerry (she is the one second from the right, who as a Director of Public Health keeps herself fit and trim) and I have decided to embark on what for us will be an epic adventure and challenge - we're going to raise funds for Arthritis Research this year by running the Great North Run.
Why Arthritis Research you ask?
Well our dear friend Leo (she is the one with the big smile who is furthest right in the picture) has developed Rheumatoid Arthritis and the impact on her life has at times been significant.
Rheumatoid Arthritis affects 350,000 people in the UK and results in stiff and painful joints which make movement difficult.
I'm pleased to say that Leo is in good shape at the moment as a result of a new treatment, but more research is necessary to help Arthritis Research take the pain away and keep sufferers active.
Why the Great North Run?
I've never completed a significant run before, unless you call running to get to the school playground on time significant, but I have always fancied the idea of running. Gerry and I are both Geordie lasses and it didn't take long to select the Great North Run as our fundraising challenge.
It will be fantastic to head back home for the run and enjoy the atmosphere which I know will help push my legs along when the going gets tough - and by the way someone just told me it is tough and that eight of the 13.1 miles are uphill!
So that's what I'm doing and why. It has been really upsetting to see the impact that Arthritis has had at times on my friend and I really hope you'll feel able to support me and Arthritis Research by locating your Barclaycard, or indeed any other card you may wish to use, and making a donation to spur me along the 13.1 mile route, not to mention the many miles of training first.
Donating via JustGiving is easy and secure and if you are a UK taxpayer then Gift Aid will be reclaimed. Better still once the race is complete and I've found the energy to log on and let Barclaycard know, they'll kindly match whatever I raise so every pound you donate could be worth £2.25 for Arthritis Research.
So please do dig deep and donate now.
Many, many thanks for your support,
Andrea x
