A funny thing happened at the Pink Ribbon Ball this year (Breast
Cancer Now 2017). One of the auction lots was a place in the London Marathon 2018 and no-one was biting. So, fuelled by plenty of Merlot a crazy lady stood up and said she would run it but people had to pledge enough money to get her off her couch.  £10,000 later the deal
was sealed.

The crazy, very drunk, asthmatic 56-year-old with dodgy knees and osteo-arthritis was me.  Oh and did I mention that I have a chronic fear of crowds so being penned in with 30,000 people at the start will be a real challenge - and that’s before the running bit.

I am no runner but every year I am moved by the stories of the survivors and the courage of the families who are left behind.  People who stand up in front of strangers in the hope that if enough money can be raised there might be a better way in the future. We have all been touched by Breast Cancer in some way; I lost a grandmother to it; I have seen my sister in law beat it twice; I have watched my good friend lose his wife to it; I stand and watch another good friend seek to spend as much time as she can with her best friend having already lost another to it; I shed a tear when Bex’s mum stood up at the ball to tell her daughter’s story (I cry for all the stories); my list could be endless.

I am determined to complete this herculean task because I am
overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of a room full of strangers at the Ball.  I am determined because Breast Cancer Now needs that money.  And, in the cold light of day (I am not sure I have sobered up sufficiently to be nursing a hangover yet), I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the former for placing their faith in me.

So why this page? £10,000 is an enormous amount of money.  I have started this page because I am struck by the fact that the people who actually know me have not yet had a chance to add their money to this pot of generosity.  I would love to more than double the pledges from the Ball. 

PLEASE help me to achieve that.  Together we can beat Breast Cancer..….I have the tough bit, all you have to do is open your wallets and GIVE GENEROUSLY!
