Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Any donation you can give will help make a difference for Sarcoma UK.
When I was 17 I nearly lost my life to a rare form of cancer called sarcoma. I was incredibly lucky to survive my cancer which was wrapped around my spine and I am told had developed to the size of a grapefruit. Despite showing many signs, my cancer went undiagnosed for many months. This is not uncommon with Sarcoma as most people haven't heard of it, which is why awareness raising is so important. There are around 100 sub types of sarcoma. And if the cancer is diagnosed early, chances of survival are much improved.
I didn't talk about my experience for twenty five years until last year a colleague Chris Martin inspired me to share my story with others. Through the support of friends, family and colleagues I raised £3,328.75 for Teenage Cancer Trust by trekking the Sahara. This year in memory of Chris Martin, who died in November from sarcoma, I am fundraising by trekking to Mount Everest's base camp.
Today the Sarcoma UK charity https://sarcoma.org.uk/ helps people with this rare cancer, when I had it there was very little information or support (there wasn't even an internet!). Today we can do so much more, and I am fundraising to help others who could benefit from the fantastic work of this charity.
