Aphasia is a language disorder which affects a person’s ability to speak, read, write and understand language. There are an estimated 350,000 people living with a diagnosis of Aphasia in the UK, often the devastating result of a stroke or head injury. Aphasia Support is a registered charity providing tailored speech and language therapy and long-term support to people with Aphasia, and their carers. The charity aims to improve the quality of life for people with Aphasia, helping them to regain control, confidence and independence. With your kindness and generosity, we can create a world where every person with Aphasia has access to support and can communicate with confidence.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As everyone I know has realised, I love talking!! I've decided to challenge myself to stay quiet for 12 hours. This is so that I can, in a vey brief way, experience what it's like to be unable to speak such as might occur after a stroke. Loss of speech after a stroke has a devastating effect on the stroke survivor and their family and friends. I've seen this while working for SWIT both as a Volunteer and more recently as a Trustee and I want to help this fantastic charity to continue to provide the brilliant support it gives.
