Story
Every year, the Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals rehabilitates and rehomes dozens of formerly abused and neglected horses. This year 20 horses removed by the state were brought to the shelter in a single day. Everyone at MSSPA was up for this challenge but many of these horses need significant veterinary care, farrier work, and nourishment. In addition to the Neglected 20, there were 27 horses already in the River Road shelter, which takes in horses year round.
I am Riding to Rescue for Phoebe, a mustang mare, and her filly, Izzy. When Phoebe came to MSSPA, she was underweight, had curling hooves and long teeth, and needed treatment for a wound. An unhandled mustang, she was afraid and could not be caught for care. After a lot of patience, however, the MSSPA staff haltered Phoebe and her rehabilitation has begun. Sweet Izzy was less than 3 months old when she arrived and was just as suspicious of human contact as her dam. As Phoebe has grown more comfortable with human handling, Izzy’s curiosity and playfulness have come out more and more.
Please join me in helping with the whole herd's physical and psychological recovery. My goal is to raise $500 toward the campaign goal of $21,000 in 2021. A gift in support of this would mean so much to me and the barn "family." Thank you for considering!
