QBI Kangaroo Island Wilderness Trek · 11 March 2021 to 15 March 2021 ·

Janice Rushworth, along with a group of trekkers, are walking the Kangaroo Island Wilderness Trek in March 2021 to raise funds to support dementia research at the Queensland Brain Institute through the Alastair Rushworth Scholarship Fund.

Story

Every three seconds, someone is diagnosed with dementia. It is the second-biggest killer of Australians. It is not a normal part of ageing and the impact of this slow degenerative disease is heart-breaking. Our thoughts, our memories, our ability to comprehend and engage with the world around us are precious; they make us who we are. Dementia gradually wears these away. There are 472,000 Australians living with dementia and a further 1.6 million involved in their care. Currently there is no cure, no treatment to slow its progression, and an incomplete understanding of what causes the disease.
But research around dementia is gathering pace and UQ’s Queensland Brain Institute is leading the global hunt for a cure. I am joining with a group of our wonderful donors, who have all experienced loss, through this devastating disease to help raise funds to ensure this research continues.
Your support of QBI will help our team of researchers continue the fight against dementia. All donations, large or small, help make a difference. Thank you.
