Story
In 2020 I got my place in the great north run to raise funds for cardiomyopathy. Unfortunately along with Just about everything else the race was cancelled due to COVID 19. I did manage to complete the virtual event. However due to circumstances at the time, my fundraising never took off. So 2021 it is.
Here’s why I chose cardiomyopathy...After being a fit and healthy guy, working hard, cross country (trail) running, playing five a side (with people half his age) and generally all Round active, my dad was stuck with ill health. The list is so long I won’t bore you...but one of the most life limiting conditions he was diagnosed with was cardiomyopathy, Leading to his heart & renal failure. It was later found that dad had a genetic defect causing the cardiomyopathy (A genetic defect that will one day be named after my dad) But has sadly passed to my little sister & brother and if that’s a not bad enough it’s also present in my Aunties and cousins And there is a Very scary possibility my nephews and niece also. I feel so very fortunate to have missed out on this gene defect. If not a bit guilty. I know that’s silly right?!!
Heartbreakingly this condition took dad from us far too soon. He may not get to see my fundraising or me complete the event. But I know he was my biggest running fan and I know he’ll be bursting with pride Just as he always was.
So in memory of my amazing dad, the strongest most determined bloke I ever had the pleasure of knowing, my absolute hero. And of corse to show my love and support to all of my family I will be fundraising from now until the great north run 2021
** Anyone who would like to make a donation in lieu of flowers for my dads funeral taking place on the 5th January 2021 can also do so using this link. The family will be extremely grateful xx
