In January 2015 I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. In July 2015, after 6 months of aggressive chemotherapy and surgery I learned that it had spread to my liver and bones. Devastated to hear there was no cure, in October 2016 I decided to move my treatment from London to the Christie in Manchester, under the gentle care of the amazing Dr Greg Wilson. In December 2015 I enrolled in an on-line course, the Cancer Whisperer, after reading the hugely impactful book of the same name by the inspirational Sophie Sabbage. My journey shifted as I began to embrace my disease and start letting it heal my life. The path has been a difficult one but with sheer determination and huge support from my darling husband David, family and friends I learnt in May 2016 that I was in remission. This is not something you expect to hear when you have Stage IV, advanced, metastatic Breast Cancer. Some days I rejoice in life and the here and now, other days I struggle with prospects of the future and what it holds, but generally I just get up and get on with it. Laughter has played a huge part of my recovery and this is down to some fantastic friends and a monumentally supportive sister and brother. This walk is a culmination of the last year and a half, my small gesture of giving something back. I want to raise funds for Macmillan and also raise awareness for Stage IV, advanced, metastatic breast cancer - rarely talked about publicly and for which there is no cure. The From Drop Off to Pick Up charity walk was named because during term time that's what we mums do and what better way to spend a day with friends and loved ones raising money for an amazing cause and raising awareness of a killer disease. You can either join us on the walk and/or dig deep and donate NOW. Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page Andrea x
I lost my mum 3 years ago and my cousin in February to this dreadful disease. My walk is for them x
