Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. We are fundraising for a charity that is close to our hearts... because this is about our children.

Birmingham Children’s Hospital treats 250,000 children every year from all over the UK.  Much of the work they do is not covered by NHS funding.  The ‘Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charities’ provides funds to complement and go above and beyond NHS services.  Any amount donated helps children and their families.  This can include anything from providing toys and crayons to life saving equipment for ill children. For families, facilities such as a family room with kitchen equipment and play space for siblings to the provision of a designated shower and bed next to your sick child can make all the difference.   

As regular visitors to Birmingham Children’s Hospital, we have always been touched by the many sad stories of children with so many different illnesses. But to us, these were ‘tragic stories’ that happened to other families. Our son Taylor was born with congenital glaucoma and the hospital saved his sight at 6 months old.  The ongoing care and treatment he receives is now part of our family routines but we never imagined that one day, our own son would need life saving treatment.

At 6 years old, our healthy, vibrant Taylor, was struck with the deadly infection meningitis. We were enjoying the 2013 Easter break with family trips to theme parks and castles. We were aware of meningitis, but the speed and severity of Taylor’s illness was catastrophic. We did not know that it can kill within 4 hours. Luckily, for Taylor, he was taken to the right place just in time. He received expert care and treatment from the moment he arrived at Birmingham Children’s hospital. We have no doubt that this saved his life.

The Hospital will continue to be part of our family life for many years to come and Taylor made us realise that we have to ‘give back’. We would like to support OUR Children’s Hospital by raising funds to thank the hospital for its care and treatment of our children. We also want to support the many children and families that find themselves in need of this amazing hospital.  

We plan on organising various fundraising events, including a 60 mile bike ride. We want this to be just the beginning and will update this page when we have more information on events.
