Story
1 in 7 babies born in the UK will need neonatal care. When this happens parents can travel an average of 27 miles to see their babies in hospital. Some parents face a round trip of 100 miles or more on a daily basis just to be with their poorly baby. Parents can't choose the distance they have to travel to be with their babies, but we can. This September people all around the UK are taking on a 27 mile or 100 mile challenge to raise money for Bliss Please give what you can, so that we can work to keep families together when a baby is born premature or sick. For more information about Bliss visit bliss.org.uk
We consider ourselves fairly lucky compared to others, we only had to travel 6 miles each way to see Rosie, but even this took its toll. Over the 101 days Rosie spent in NICU, we did this 12-mile round trip at least twice each day. This was just so we could both get some rest, and be with Rosie as much as possible. I can’t imagine how it must be for others in our position that have to travel greater distances. We would have been eternally grateful if we'd had the opportunity to stay in hospital overnight to be closer to Rosie and been able to travel a little less.
Rosie spent an initial 101 days in NICU, so I’m planning to walk 101 miles over the 30 days of September with her. I have no doubt that the research from Bliss helped us make it through as well as we did, so I’d like to support them in helping others like us.
Thank you for reading, wish us luck! Thank you for anything you can donate.
Love from Amy, Alex (who may do some walking with us) and Rosie x
