Story
Background
In light of our experience in Operations we are raising money for Blesma, the Injured Serviceman’s Charity, and the Central Benevolent Fund (CBF) which help families of Military Policeman who have been bereaved or require assistance.
It is the intent of this Company to conduct two cycle events consisting of 8 riders from this Unit:
1. Due to the draw down of the British Forces in Germany, the Höhne and Gütersloh Garrisons are closing. 110 Pro Coy 1 RMP, based in Paderborn, will be the last Regiment to leave. Therefore in we intend to cycle from Paderborn to Höhne via Gütersloh in March 2015 (approx 140 mile / 226 km) as a farewell event. This will also serve as an ideal training and publicity opportunity.
2. Our main event is to cycle from Gold Beach, Normandy, France to Normandy Barracks, Bielefelder Strasse, 33102 Germany on 6 Jun 15, covering a distance of over 596 miles (896 km). Detailed plans and routes are in the process of being created
but we expect to be covering a distance of approximately 80-90 miles per day for 7-8 days
History
110 Pro Coy historically has been the leading Royal Military Police Company since its involvement in the D Day landings with 8Corps and subsequent attacks including the Falaise Gap and the Nijmegen-Arnhem Airborne Operation. Our intent is to recreate the route from France through to Belgium, Netherlands and finally Germany.
