I have chosen to raise money for Alzheimer's Research Trust as 7yrs ago my Nan (Doreen Harris) died from the disease. Although she was gradually diagnosed, as a family we knew very little about it and therefore didn't really understand how to help her and my Grandad. It was hard to see her become a different person, loosing her memory and fading away gradually. There were occasions when I remember seeing parts of her personality shine through the disease, which brought a smile to all our faces, unfortunately not enough was done to help her. In recent years Alzheimer's has had lots of publicity, making people more aware of the disease and raising money to research into the cause and effect of it. This has enabled there to be more understanding of what happens, which has created better support for families. I would like to help raise some money to help the research projects, in order to give families a better start than we ever did.
So what am I doing - I hear you say!! Madly enough Stu's friends (Dan and Linz) asked us if we would do the 3 Peak Challenge with them. At first I thought NO CHANCE!! But then I figured I needed a challenge and I wanted to get fit. Me and Stu have been training hard (cough!) and I can't wait to prove to myself that I can do this and do the 3 peaks within 24hours.
This is the time scale we are working to:
Start at 3:00pm Saturday 8th August - Ben Nevis
Walk Ben Nevis in 4 hours!!! (hahaha)
Travel to Scarfell Pike - start walking at 2am (4 1/2 hours walk....)
Travel to Snowdon - start walking at 11am (4 hours walk)
Then finish at 3pm Sunday 9th August.
Mad I know, but I beleive I can do it and I want to do it. I also want to do it for those families in the future who may have someone diagnosed with Alzheimers.
If you can give some money - even if it's £1 - then you will make a huge difference to a families life and the future research into Alzhemiers.
I will keep you all updated to how my training is going - no doubt with a few funny stories along the way!
Thank you all for you support!!!
Amy
