Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page to support my Parachute for Parkinson's this April.

My mother was diagnosed with Parkinsons 10 years ago. She never lets the illness get her down and is always full of smiles and enthusiasm, but I believe that by helping support the medical research in gene therapy and stem cell reproduction one day she will not have to put on a brave face as the illness will have been cured. There is currently no known cure for Parkinson's and at present modern medicines can only help manage the symptoms.

Parkinson's Disease is a degenerate disorder of the central nervous system that often impairs the sufferers motor skills, speech and other functions. It is most commonly and in my mothers case characterized by muscle rigidity, a partial tremor of the body and loss of physical movement.

I have actively supported Parkinsons over the past few years in a whole range of events primarily running ones and heading their 'Donate a Brain' campaign last summer. This year I wanted to put myself out of my comfort zone and do something Ive never done before!! Skydiving! Hopefully my time spent on Gladiators launching myself down the Pyramid will prove worthy here! Although Im not sure that jumping down a squashy 30ft high set of steps will compare to free falling over 10,000ft heading back towards the earth! Ask me afterwards.....

The event is taking place at the beginning of Parkinson's  Annual Awareness week commencing Saturday April 17th. As this is my first jump I will be strapped to an instructor - who Im sure will report back if I let out a little scream! It is an open event so if you are in the area come down and watch!

Please support me on this event as not only is Parkinsons's a charity that needs all the help and support it can get in this crucial period of their research, but it goes without saying this is something more than close to my heart.

So please do your bit to help, donate and do your good deed for the day.

Thank you

Amy

xx

Anyone can get Parkinson’s. It gets worse over time and there’s no cure. Yet. Funding research into the most promising treatments, we’re getting closer to a cure. Until then, we're improving life for people with Parkinson’s, and the people in their lives. Together we'll find a cure.
