Story
Thank you for visiting my page!
This charity is close to my family’s heart and having seen first-hand their fantastic work and vision I would like to raise some money to support their endeavours by completing the Great Manchester Swim.
The event is a one mile dock to dock course in the Salford Quays for which I have been training for about 5 months and started open water swimming sessions in Worcester a couple of months ago in preparation for the big day. Little did I know of the risks – Swan attacks and swimmers itch (cercarial dermatitis) to name but a few. Thankfully, these are currently just other people’s experiences that I have heard of and thus far I have managed to complete my training unscathed!!!
A bit about my chosen charity:
The Emily Jordan Foundation Aims to help individuals with moderate learning and physical disabilities to lead valued and fulfilled lives. The first aim of the Foundation was realised in 2011 when enough funds were raised to purchase a unit in Kidderminster which is where Spokes in now based. Spokes is a successful social enterprise, and its primary purpose is to train young people with learning difficulties to enter the workplace. Individuals are trained on a daily basis to clean, assemble and service obsolete bikes, which are then offered for sale back to the public.
How your donations will help:
The next plan includes Creating a new Community Interest Company (CIC) that would be involved in the training of basic woodworking skills. The aims of this operation would be to manufacture bird boxes, hedgehog hibernation boxes etc. These products would be sold from the site, over the internet and through other social enterprises and it is money raised through current events that will help this become a reality.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and for your support and any donations.
Best wishes
Amy
