Story
Thanks so much for visiting my page, I would LOVE your support and I know St Leonard's would too!
We sadly lost my Grandad Roy last year. Anyone who knew Grandad will know he was a legend in his local community and was always giving back and doing things for others (he even got an MBE!). We wanted to find a way to do the same (give back I mean, not get an MBE...), so along with my Dad and cousin Laura, I am aiming to raise as much money as possible for St Leonard's Hospice in York. Their hospice at home nurses cared for Grandad before he passed away, and the support they provided my family was invaluable.
I've run a marathon once before, and one evening after a few glasses of wine I was feeling a bit big for my boots, decided to go one up on myself and book an ultra marathon in the Peak District. The next morning I was all for putting this idea back in the bin where it belonged, until Dad mentioned that the date of the event would coincidentally have been Grandad's birthday. Now I'm not normally one for believing in 'signs', but managed to convince myself that this was one, and now we're posting it on facebook and the accommodation is booked so...I guess it's happening? Luckily I've managed to drag my friend Tarryn in to doing it with me, although since she's an actual athlete who is using it as a TRAINING run for the Comrades, perhaps it will be she who is dragging me.
*Quickly googles ultra marathon training plans*
Week 1 of the selected plan could be summarised as 'painful'. Reluctantly had to sign up for a new gym membership. Week 2 brought with it the dawning realisation that my body is in no way fit to run 33.6 miles. To make matters worse, upon closer inspection, turns out there are also HILLS in the Peak District (who knew?). What will weeks 3-16 bring? Stay tuned to find out!
(In all seriousness please do consider sponsoring me because honestly I think I might be about to put myself through hell and your support would REALLY make it worth it!!!)
Thank you!
Amy
