Story
We have just spent two weeks in a remote village in Nepal with All Hands Volunteers helping to rebuild a school that had been destroyed in the devastating 2015 earthquake.
All Hands is an inspiring organisation that has such far-reaching and positive tangible effects on the communities that it engages with - our time with them has been a truly humbling experience for us both.
On a daily basis we worked with amazing volunteers and staff from all over the world – with varying degrees of skills (ours being none!)- together with local workers to rebuild the two school buildings before the December completion deadline. While the days were long and the work was hard, the sense of teamwork and common cause created such a positive environment and motivated everyone to work on. We were provided with endless guidance and support and shown such kindness and patience by all that we will never forget. Within two weeks ‘base camp’ became the feel like home, the people like family and we have made some lifelong friends. Our only wish is that we could have stayed much longer but we will definitely be back!
The Nepalis themselves are such beautiful and giving people and being in their presence just warmed the heart. The children are currently attending school in temporary tin constructs around the site while the building work is completed which served as a welcome reminder each day of just how important this cause is. The teachers and other community members would also selflessly help out where they could on site and it was a privilege to work alongside them.
For all those considering volunteering, we couldn’t recommend All Hands more - it has honestly been the most rewarding experience of our lives.
All Hands needs ongoing financial support to continue with disaster relief programmes for devastated communities around the world – the organisation prides itself on its transparency so the allocation of any donations made is known.
If you could please donate whatever you can we would greatly appreciate it.
Huge thanks,
Blanka and Amy
