Story
The 2019 Ride4Life event is supporting two projects at Darent Valley. The Special Care Baby Unit and The Cancer Fighting Fund.
So we've ridden over 330 miles in 4 days! The ride set off from Darent Valley Hospital in Dartford, down to Dover then ferry to France on day one (70 miles). Day 2 Calais to Bruges (83 miles), Day 3 Bruges to Breda (91 miles), Day 4 Breda to Amsterdam (90 miles) - and bruised bums!
The ride is supporting the upgrade and expansion on Walnut Ward, the special care baby unit, increasing capacity from 22 to 26 cots, and being able to care for babies from 27 weeks gestation. Secondly they want to purchase a Digital breast tomosynthesis (tomo), also known as 3D mammography. This revolutionary new breast imaging tool can improve the early detection of breast cancer.
Whether facing a medical emergency, cancer, stroke, heart disease or have a sick child or baby, we want to provide the very best care. Charitable funds have enabled us to introduce the most up-to-date equipment, and improve the ward environments for patients and their families, far beyond what is possible through the NHS budget alone. Your support means staff are able to do so much more with the resources made available to them, meaning we are best placed to detect, diagnose and treat a range of illnesses and injuries at your hospital.
