Story
I am running the Brighton Half Marathon with my brother Dan in memory of our mum Lindsay, who died of lung cancer in July this year aged 63, within days of being diagnosed.
Losing her, and trying to cope with the unbearable pain we are suffering, has been the hardest challenge of our lives.
Mum made a huge impact on so many people in her life and me and my family want to make sure that continues even now she’s gone.
She constantly put others before herself and was always considerate of people in less fortunate positions, which is something that has stuck with us and our eight siblings, as we didn’t have much when we were growing up.
Instead of flower donations at her funeral, we chose to do a fundraiser for Chomp, a Brighton charity which does amazing work to support low-income families.
She’d be so happy to hear it raised more than £2,100 thanks to all our incredible friends, so we want to keep having a positive effect on people’s lives in her name by doing another fundraiser for Chomp.
We’re sure she’d also have a good laugh seeing us attempt to run a half marathon!

From Chomp
Over the last 15 months Chomp has provided over 1500 fruit, veg and grocery boxes, given out over 1000 supermarket vouchers, run cookery workshops, wellbeing days, a women's beginners running course and funded barista training. We've funded 428 food boxes this year so far, via our partnership with Brighton Grub Hub and lined up a business to partner with us to offer 50 disadvantaged kids funded sport coaching for a year. And, of course, we have been running our Chomp lunch and activity clubs through the holidays, Covid restrictions permitting. This year however, funders are increasingly stretched, and unfortunately, Chomp is facing a shortfall for our project running costs in 2022. With over 6,500 children entitled to free school meals in Brighton and Hove we have much to do in 2022 to contribute to the eradication of holiday hunger in our city. So we really need your help! If you want to know how much to contribute £15 would be an awesome start! But every pound helps. Thank you.
