Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As most of you know I run 10k every year in London for different causes. Islamic help is a charity I have chosen and a project I will be fundraising for are Syrian and Palestinian refugees. I will also be running in memory of my father as this year will mark his 10 year death anniversary.
This year has been a challenge for me as I haven’t been attending classes at the gym or running as I normally do in the last few months. The first day at the gym (3 weeks ago) was very difficult, but I’m back at my base line running 4 miles in around 30 minutes, four/five times a week along with spinning classes etc. As Ramadan (the month of fasting from sunrise to sunset) approaches training will be a little difficult, but I’ll get through it!
Since volunteering in Greece and being part of a medical team was incredibly eye opening. The overwhelming majority of Syrian and Palestinian refugees face intense hardship and a long path to safety. Seeking asylum and leaving their homeland is an intense journey, and often involves moving from one destination to the next. After leaving Syria and Palestine, refugees find themselves in camps holding large amounts of fellow displaced people attempting to travel to safety. The camps provide a temporary home for refugees as they are corralled through a long and exhaustive process of being accepted into another country. Due to the overwhelming number of refugees and the limited resources and staff at these camps to process the large amounts of people, these camps have turned from being ‘temporary’ into more long-term homes.
Words from a Syrian refugee:
“You all know what is happening in Syria. The media has been covering it, what do you want me to say? Hundreds of children were murdered, their bodies torn apart, women were killed, corpses fill the streets; this is hell on earth. You talk about human rights, you talk about humanity. This has proved to be a joke. The world is watching, and what they see is not a joke. This is real; that’s how bad it is, how inhumane it is.”
With your support, Islamic help can reach desperate families and give them support to buy urgently needed essentials such as food, clothes and medicine. We can help them find a better place to live and send their children back to school.
