Story

This year, I will be challenging myself yet again all in aid of Crohn's and Colitis UK.

- In May, I will be joining an incredibly inspiring group of women to run a 10km through London... IN OUR UNDIES! This is all in aim of raising awareness and celebrating body positivity in the inspiring CelebrateYou campaign.

You can find more information at; https://www.vitalitylondon10000.co.uk/news-media/latest-news/the-vitality-london-10000-launches-celebrate-you-campaign/

- In June/July I will be WALKINGIT again in a selection of Crohn's and Colitis UK's series of Walk it events. This was incredibly successful last year and I had an incredible team of family/friends join me for the Swansea leg. This also led to the honour of a nomination and, then, the presentation of a shortlisted finalist for the Alex Demain Fundraiser of the year award at the London event. I invite any family and friends to join me yet again this year in this incredibly fun and supportive event.

- And, finally, in October, I will be partaking in my biggest challenge as of yet, Cardiff Half Marathon

Many of you will know the extent of the effects IBD has had on mine and my close ones lives over the past years.

Having finally been diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis at the age of 13/14, the years that followed consisted numerous of tests, hospital stays and trial and error treatments until there were no other options available and ultimately, leading to 2 major, emergency, surgeries and now living with a permanent stoma (there is still yet no cure to IBD).The disease can still be extremely debilitating at times and, despite having my bowel removed, still suffer with its symptoms on a daily basis. This, without a doubt, will be a definite challenge for my stoma and I but one that we're extremely determined and excited to complete.

If you know me, you'll understand the extents that I go to in aid of awareness and understanding - its something that lies extremely close with me and is a huge passion of mine having been battling from a young age I strive to do my part in breaking stigmas and raising awareness. I put hours in on a daily basis to provide people with information and support as well as getting involved with any additional opportunities with anything to do with the cause. Crohn's and Colitis UK -  https://www.crohnsandcolitis.org.uk

Crohn's and Colitis UK aims to improve life for everyone affected by Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), the most common forms being Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. Together these conditions affect about 300,000 people in the United Kingdom. The charity brings together people of all ages who have been diagnosed with IBD, their families and the health professionals involved in their care.'We fight Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. In fact, Crohn’s and Colitis UK is the leading charity in the battle against these and other forms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).

'Our mission is to work with all those affected by these conditions to achieve a better quality of life, improve services, and ultimately find a cure.

We want to see a world in which people’s lives are not limited by Crohn’s and Colitis. How are we working towards this goal?

We provide high quality information, practical help and personal care that enables people to manage their conditions. We believe people living with Crohn’s and Colitis should be able to live their lives to the fullest.
We work with the UK health sector to improve diagnosis, treatment and management of IBD. We want everyone with the conditions to have access to the best specialist services.
We support life-changing research to increase knowledge of the causes and the best treatments for Crohn’s and Colitis. We want to improve lives now and lead the mission to find a cure.
We campaign vigorously – for more knowledge, better services and more support for our ongoing fight against IBD.
And we’re doing it in line with our values of compassion, inclusion, collaboration, empowerment and excellence.

We won’t stop until we’ve won.'

This year, I've decided that I'd like to add another charity to my list;
I will be donating 15% of my fundraising to a charity called 'A Bear Named Buttony' - I was fortunate enough to meet Jenny, the founder of the charity at a recent event. I was really inspired by Jenny and touched by the concept behind what it is she does and, why it is she does it. I think it's absolutely incredible and an immensely lovely, purposeful idea.

'Buttony is a bear with a stoma who is donated throughout the UK to children who are having surgery to create their own stoma. The inspiration for the project is our daughter who had her first stoma aged three, she’s twenty one now!'
