Story
My name is Amber Daud, and I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when I was 8 years old. I was a young girl who was confused and scared of how her future and the number of Maryland cookies she could eat, might change.
Since that day, my condition has shaped who I am. And for so long I thought it was a bad thing. Until I realised how brave it was to inject myself with insulin at 9 years old. To attend pump courses at 14 and transition to an unfamiliar adult clinic at 16, in the middle of a pandemic. It is because of my condition that I know how to be both strong and resilient.
I am doing this challenge because I want to feel healthy and happy, not despite my Diabetes, but because of it. And I believe this challenge allows me to do just that, working towards a better me for the sake of helping a community that I am proud to be a part of.
Whats 31 days and 62 miles to a girl who was asked to be brave at 8 years old, and has fought relentlessly ever since, with a Maryland cookie in her hand every step of the way.
Every Diabetic has a story, and we all deserve the chance to an easier lifestyle, which is what you open the door to when donating to Diabetes UK.
