Story
In 2019 we lost our wonderful Mum, Hilary Coley, to Motor Neurone Disease.
In memory of Mum and to raise much needed funds for MND UK, Dad is having an open garden on 13th August at our family home in Shrewton near Salisbury. For those unable to attend or for those that would like to donate we are setting up this page. Your name will also be entered into a raffle for some wonderful Coley pottery (handmade down in the Southview Pottery, such as casserole dishes, salt pigs and mugs!).
MND hit our family hard; it's an awful illness and one that no one can prepare you for. Not only did Mum have dementia at the time of her MND diagnosis, which meant that she could not properly understand the diagnosis, but it meant that as a family we were told we had only a matter of months left with her and that the road would be incredibly hard as she deteriorated fast toward being unable to speak, eat, swallow, walk or look after herself.
Motor Neurone Disease (MND) affects the nerves called motor neurones in the brain and spinal cord. These nerves tell your muscles what to do, leading them to weaken, stiffen and waste. MND can affect how you walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe.
MND is life-shortening and there is no cure.
The MND Association is a charity focused on improving access to care, research and campaigning for people affected by motor neurone disease. They were an amazing support to our family at an incredibly difficult time.
