Story
Firstly thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In December 2019 at the age of 38 I was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. Looking back my first symptom started in March 2019 and by October 2019 when I eventually went to my GP I had five symptoms. They were extreme fatigue, bloated tummy, needing to pee more frequently, pain in my side and sickness. After numerous blood tests, ultrasounds, MRI and CT scans I was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer on 05/12/2019 and had surgery on 23/12/2019.
Each year over 7500 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer in the UK. Unfortunately it is often diagnosed at a later stage, when survival is at its lowest. When a woman is diagnosed with ovarian cancer at the earliest stage, her chance of surviving it for five years or more doubles from just 46% to more than 90%. It is the biggest gynaecological killer of women in the UK, with the UK survival rates among the worst in Europe.
I am taking part in the 11000 daily steps challenge in March to raise money for Target Ovarian Cancer and to raise awareness about this illness. The 11000 steps represents the 11 women who sadly die every day from Ovarian Cancer. If I can raise awareness to help people and maybe save a life then it will all be worth it!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading and for your donation. Love Amber xx
