Story
My Dad and I are going to cycle 100 miles from London to Brighton! Three years ago - thanks to OVERWHELMING support - we raised close to £2,000 cycling 75 miles for the same cause. Somehow we have convinced ourselves to do it again. We are aiming to match our time of 10 hours despite adding an extra 25 miles to our route.
I'm willing to cause (possibly permanent) damage to my bum cheeks, wear a god awful lycra outfit and even miss Eastenders omnibus. So please help us raise money for Genetic Disorders UK who fund research into genetic diseases and disorders, and support sufferers. My mum had several strokes aged just 26 before her rare genetic disorder (fibromuscular dysplasia) was eventually diagnosed. I'd hate to think of anyone else needlessly suffering like she did.
The sciency bit is that any one of us could have a disease or disorder lying doormant in our genes - these can make an appearance and take affect during our seemingly healthy adult lives, or are simply passed onto our biological children. Some of these disorders are rare, making them very difficult to diagnose and treat.
In our crazy fast paced world we all work hard, buy things we can(t) afford and tweet about everything in between. But genetic disorders can affect anyone - no matter how many followers you have.
If we can get to the moon we should be able to beat genetic disease.
RIP my yummy mummy
