Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Newcastle Healthcare Charity gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
WHY DONATE?
After spending over 6months at the bedside of my sister in-law, I realised just how much hard work, dedication and equipment the Intensive Care Unit at the Royal Victoria Hospital, based in the heart of Newcastle, actually do and use.
Sarah-Jane suffered from a chest infection, which subsequently got worse and worse and by the time she was admitted to hospital was taken straight to intensive care and put on a ventilator to help her breathe. Sarah was on the ventilator for a few weeks before they had to operate and she then had a tracheotomy fitted, again to help her breather better.
As Sarah began to regain her strength after being sedated for over 3months she was now able to breathe at over 60% on her own which was excellent news. However, she was unable to eat anything due to the trachy, so had a fixed feed tube fitted through her nose – however Sarah did manage to pull over 6 of these out and subsequently had to have a PEG operation to feed through her stomach!
Sarah was in hospital for another 3months after this but we are pleased to say Sarah-Jane is now making a full recovery in her new home in South Shields where she is doing extremely well.
My husband and I can’t thank the intensive care unit enough for their help and support at this time and because of them and their equipment it helped Sarah get better and fighting fit.
This is the main reason for us helping to raise money for this part of the hospital as they have provided so much help and support to us. We also understand how much equipment in ICU costs and we would like to raise enough money to provide new and further equipment that the Intensive Care Unit so desperately needs.
SO PLEASE DONATE NOW!
