Are we mental, walking on fire?  Yes most probably! Life’s an adventure and if we can help other people while challenging ourselves and having fun in the process then it’s the perfect thing to do!

We chose Strathcarron Hospice as Maria’s Granny Liz was helped by the amazing staff there in her final days.  They really looked after Liz and the whole family making thing much easier and a lot less stressful.  

The hospice needs over £14000 a day to run. By completing the fire walk we hope to help the hospice look after many more people and their families.

Who are we?

Amanda is an intrepid adventurer, always looking for the next crazy thing to do.  Born with Congenital Muscular Dystrophy she loves to push boundaries and prove that life is about what you can do not what you can’t.  In the past she’s ridden mustang horses in the Mohave desert, ziplined down a ski jump in Norway & taken her wheelchair down a red mountain bike trail (scary biscuits!!).

Her Muscular Dystrophy is a slowly degenerative condition which affects all her muscles.  At 12 she developed Kyphosis Scoliosis (twisting and curvature of the spine) which meant a full spinal fusion with rods. Recently her lungs have weakened meaning oxygen during the day & ventilation at night.

Her life is a little more tricky than the average person but that doesn’t stop her having a full and exciting life.  She works full time (with Maria) as the Finance Manager at Comrie Croft (eco holiday destination), plays the snare drum (from her wheelchair) in the local Comrie Pipe Band, skis and shoots (and much more)

Maria

Live wire Maria loves the outdoors - handy as she’s the campsite manager at Comrie Croft!  She’s never happier than when she’s out walking her dog Blue or zooming down the Crofts mountain bike trails with her fiancé Kevin.

Previously she worked in the care industry and loves to help people.  Her wicked sense of humour is infectious & she’s always playing tricks on her work mates (just ask Amanda!).

Both of us have had experience of hospitals and hospices, they are amazing places, and the people who work in that area are hero’s.
