Crisis at Christmas is the national charity for people who are homeless. At Christmas and throughout the year, it helps people directly out of homelessness, and campaigns for the social changes needed to solve it altogether.
Every Christmas the charity mobilises a unique volunteering effort to provide warmth, companionship, and vital services to people facing homelessness at one of the toughest times of the year.
Each contribution of £29.06 takes a homeless person off the streets and gives them access to:
- Hot meals and Christmas lunch
- Safe place to stay
- Long term personal case worker
- Year-round support with training and education
- Advice on housing, employment, welfare and benefits
- Companionship from volunteers
- Phone and online support
- Health and wellbeing programmes
- The chance to leave homelessness behind for good.
I have donated to Crisis annually for nearly a decade because the thought of so many being homeless and hungry, when my own family enjoy the most luxuriant of days, was desperate and heart-breaking.
On a more personal level my daughter was for many years lost to me, so I lived in hope that she might have been one of those lucky ones who were scooped up on Christmas Day where ever she might have been.
It is such an amazing and transformational charity that - having never previously jogged one single stride (!) - I have taken up the challenge of training for and running the London Marathon.
