*UPDATE*
Boy oh boy…..that was brutal! An amazing experience - you cannot put into words the emotions that truly take over your mind & body during every second of the 26.2 miles ‘road trip’! I finished it, from mile 17 it went horribly wrong, intense pain in my quads which meant a lot of pausing to stretch, frustrating after a strong start….but crossed the line in tears after an epic 5hr 31min journey of self discovery!
Huge thanks for all your amazingly generous support - I am truly grateful and overwhelmed by all you fabulous people. Big love 🙏💕🙏
Hey all,
Wow - huge thanks for clicking this link and for stopping by my fundraising page. This will be my hat trick of marathons - my first as a complete beginner, persuaded in a moment of drunken madness by friends to have a go was 2003, Andrew and I crossed the line in pain but together, my second was in 2018 when I reluctantly moved home from the UAE and needed a distraction to aid the repatriation - on reflection I should have thought this through further…..plenty of more enjoyable distractions I could have chosen :) and this final effort in 2023 is to mark my new decade....the one that begins with a 5!
I have chosen to support and raise awareness for MND, a truly cruel and unrelenting disease that is dramatically underfunded. Our lovely friends James & Lottie Clarke have literally had their world turned upside down following James' diagnosis back in December 2021. James (only 43) has been utterly remarkable and is determined to fight, his strength alongside the unfathomable support from Lottie and his three children has encouraged me to once again step way out of my comfort zone and attempt this run. Not quite how I envisaged celebrating this milestone but MND can literally come out of nowhere and I feel so privileged to be healthy and able to channel energy and conviction into raising awareness and a few pennies for such a deserving cause. There is a cure to be found, we just need to accelerate the search.
Please give what you can, if you can spare just a couple of pounds/dollars/dirhams/euros ……..myself, my little family, Team Clarke and the entire crew at My Name'5 Doddie Foundation will be forever grateful.
Much love
Amanda (Thorpy will be on my running vest)!

ALS is the US term for MND for those pals across the pond.
