Story
I was sitting with my mum in the Big C Center at the Norfolk and Norwich hospital.........we were there for a wig fitting......... My mum has cancer and is having chemo to treat her condition. We already knew it was a given that she would loose her hair and she was saying how worried she was and how this would make her feel.
It was that moment that the 'crazy' thought popped into my head.................I was going to shave my head, sarifice my hair, stand in solidarity with my mum who had done so much for me over the years and support her as fully as I could through this difficult time. I couldn't stop her being sick, I couldn't have the treatment for her, but this I could do.........and think of the fun we would have with hats, bandannas and head scarfs!!!!!
I kept my idea to myself for a few days until I was sure that I could actually go through with it..............it was during this time that the idea of not just shaving my head but actually raising some money began to grow...........if I was going to do this then why not raise some money in the process???
I finally shared my secret idea with
Katherine.............and immediatly she said she would shave her head
too, in support of me!! Katherine too has been touched by cancer, she
lost her dad a few years ago and her mum is having ongoing treatment, so for her there is also meaning behind her decision.
Our
event has gathered momentum, we are not only shaving our heads but
dyeing what hair is left crazy colours!!!!! Our children Luis (8) and
Charlie (5) have agreed to shave their heads too for the cause. Andrea
my friend and hairdresser is in charge for the day and is looking
forward to creating some mad styles, wanting to have some 'fun' as our
hair gets shorter!! look out for pics here and on facebook!
Our
event is taking place on February 28th 2010................we are
hoping to raise as much money as we can for Cancer Reasearch enableing
them to continue the work they do............ perhaps your donation may
contibute to you or a loved one becoming a cancer survivor :-)
