Story
Firstly thanks so very much for taking time to visit our justgiving page
Our niece Ruby suffers with Central Core Disease which is a disorder that affects those muscles used for movement (skeletal muscles). This condition causes persistent muscle weakness that predominantly impacts her legs.Although it is not generally expected to worsen over time, it is nonetheless categorised under the 'dystrophy' term. That is why we are seeking to raise funds for MD UK
Ruby is an amazing young girl that allows nothing to prevent her enjoying activities as much as any other young child her age. Despite requiring a walker from a very early age Ruby has been hugely determined and for example attends dance classes (with the use of her walker) to join in with her peers. My brother Michael and sister in law Nassera have equally been amazing in the way they have and continue to deal with the challenges Ruby's illness brings. They utilise resources through MD for information and support.
Ruby is an inspiration and this has led me to taking the decision to challenge myself (Amanda) to do something neither I nor many who know would have ever thought I would contemplate. I will be running in the London Marathon 2019 yes 26.2 miles!! I started walk/jogging/running 3 and a half years ago on a couch to 5k programme through my local running club Teesdale Athletic Club. I thought 5k was enough after 12 weeks let alone 26.2 miles but I am determined to do this and will now be joined by Simon who will be running the marathon too. We intend to raise as much as we both can to support this worthy charity. We are arranging some events to assit with the fundraising and we have already held a Halloween party with Ruby her family and friends where we raised an amazing £430. We are now planning a New Years Eve 70's & Abba night in our local village hall and have other events in the planning one of which involves a bottle of Macallan `Ruby` Whisky so keep watching this page for more information. Thank you to those that have already helped to raise money through our events but in the meantime if you wish to support us and Muscular Dystrophy UK through JustGiving, we would be extremely grateful for any contributions no matter how small.
