Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page I am going to run the Virgin London Marathon on 22nd April to raise funds for the charity Sense.
On 15th December 2011 my exuberant, beautiful, clever sixteen year old daughter Ellen was dianosed with Usher Syndrome Type 2, after months of tests and Doctor and consultant diliberating over the dianosis.
Usher syndrome is a very challenging disability. Ellen was born deaf she has moderate to severe hearing loss, the prognosis is that Ellen will gradually lose her sight.
The sight loss is caused by an eye condition known as Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP). RP is a disease where the retina slowly degenerates and loses its ability to transmit pictures to the brain. The early symptoms include difficulty seeing in the dark and in different lighting conditions. Over time vision gradually deteriorates until tunnel vision develops.
Why SENSE?
There is no treatment available for Usher at the moment! Sense is currently conducting research looking into the types of Usher, the genes that are involved and where the genes are located. Sense provides and has provided to us, invaluable advice and support to people with Usher and their families. So please sponsor me to run the Marathon and inturn support the valuable work that SENSE does!
